This week is a strange week. On Thursday, I’m traveling to North Carolina to present at a conference. In order to prepare for this trip, I have to finish my reading for class and my leadership reflection earlier than normal, since I have to finish it before I go on my trip.  While on my trip, I’ll be flying on Thursday and Saturday, which may afford me some studying and writing time. But, I will also be in all-day sessions on Friday and Saturday. I have a feeling that by the time I get on the plane on Saturday evening, I’m going to be too wiped out to work. Luckily, I have Wednesday off, so I can pack and do homework before I leave on my trip.

When I’m faced with these potential long stretches of time, I tend to try to squeeze too much work into my time. I don’t always accurately account for how long certain tasks will take. This week, I’m trying to balance my goals, with my real deadlines and my hopeful deadlines. We’ll see how successful I am on Sunday.

As you can see from above, I had a marginally successful week.

On the plus side, I watched significantly less television than I normally do and simply because I had other responsibilities.  I prioritized homework over my creative work, which I think is appropriate, considering that I have a paper due on Wednesday and a final project due on Saturday, March 27, 2010.

On the negative side, I didn’t accomplish nearly enough creative work. I went to my writer’s group, which really spurned my motivation. However, I didn’t revise any poems nor did I complete any art journal pages. I started an art journal page on Sunday, which I have to scrap because it does not look good at all.  I think I will paint over it and try again.

For the first week out on this new way of tracking my work, I think that these were good results. I stayed focused on my goals and accomplished a good deal of them within my marginal free time.
