mission

My personal mission statement:  To honor and sustain creativity and lifelong learning in myself and the learners I work with, through dedicated personal practice, mentoring, and building connections with creative and educational institutions.

Three years ago, I began blogging at 9 to 5 Poet.  I used my blog as a way to focus on my poetry writing, in the face of a stressful, intense job.  It helped me to keep my writing vibrant and fresh, even as I worked hard to find a balance within my work life.

Since then, my life has shifted. I have found a job that I love and my relationship to writing has changed. I have learned that I am less concerned with the product of poetry writing and more concerned with the process of creative engagement in my life.  I’ve expanded my repertoire to include collage, photography, and poetry postcards, all of which feed me in the same way that poetry feeds me.  I also know that I have interests outside of poetry, that I felt couldn’t express on a “poetry” blog.  I need an outlet where I can see the intersection of all of my personal, creative, and professional interests.

This blog will work as a new beginning for me, a way to chronicle my engagement with my creative work, my personal interests and my professional life.  Rather than running from one to the other, and making myself sick in the process, I want to learn how to feed and sustain all parts of my life, alongside each other.
